SERVICES / 05 — CFD TRAINING

Train your team with experienced CFD specialists.

As a research-oriented organisation with proven careers in leading academic and research institutions, we combine scientific teaching with industrial experience — the best balance between theory and practical application.

FORMATS

In our classrooms or at your premises.

CLASSROOM

Held every three months on our premises by dedicated staff. Sessions can also be streamed online for remote participation.

ON-SITE

For larger groups, dedicated training at your premises can be more effective — also available as private webinars.

Courses are logically structured and typically run 8–10 hours per day excluding breaks. We supply all computing infrastructure — or bring your own laptop and use a preconfigured USB stick with all software ready. Each course ends with a dedicated Q&A session; participants are encouraged to prepare questions in advance. The introductory course is always delivered ahead of the applied course so you can attend both — with a 20% discount when booking both seminars.

COURSE 01 — 2 DAYS

Introduction to CFD

A complete overview of the typical industrial CFD workflow — how CFD is deployed for real product development and design. Skills carry over directly to the applied course.

TARGET AUDIENCE
· Individuals entering the CFD field · Users with academic-only experience · Managers supervising CFD projects
PREREQUISITES
· Engineering or related background · Good computer skills (Linux a plus)
DAY 1 — FOUNDATIONS
History & need for CFD Applications, advantages & limits The typical CFD process Software landscape (open & closed source) Finite Volume & finite differencing Turbulence: RANS, LES, y+ criteria Boundary conditions & wall functions Initialization methods
DAY 2 — PRACTICE
CFD-friendly geometry generation Meshing strategies & boundary layers Solving: physics, coupling, convergence Post-processing: clips, iso-surfaces, streamlines External flow case: automotive / aircraft Internal flow case: cabin / pipe flow Review & questions
COURSE 02 — 2 DAYS

Applied CFD using OpenFOAM

An intensive course covering everything needed to perform simple CFD cases. Each stage of the workflow is analysed in detail with emphasis on practical implementation — leaving participants with the fundamentals to initiate their own CFD study.

TARGET AUDIENCE
· Engineers conducting CFD studies · Attendees of Introduction to CFD · CFD engineers moving to open source
PREREQUISITES
· Basic CFD principles · Linux fundamentals · Programming helpful, not essential
DAY 1 — SETUP & MESHING
OpenFOAM case structure & solvers Tensor calculus for CFD Geometry: FreeCAD & Fusion 360 Surface repair: STL/OBJ, Admesh, MeshLab Meshing with SnappyHexMesh Moving meshes & AMI Boundary conditions in depth Initialization techniques
DAY 2 — SOLVING & DEVELOPMENT
