From physical object to production-ready geometry.
Concept design, geometry reconstruction and rapid prototyping. Our scanning capability reconstructs geometry up to 300 m in extent to within 1 mm — so studies can start from what exists on site, not from drawings that no longer match it.
1 · What the service covers
Geometry work runs from first concept through to the drawings a workshop can build from, and back the other way when an as-built asset has to be captured.
| CAPABILITY | WHAT IT MEANS IN PRACTICE |
|---|---|
| 3D scanning | Reality capture of components, machinery, vessels and structures where drawings are missing, outdated or never existed. |
| Geometry reconstruction | Point-cloud data converted into clean, watertight CAD surfaces suitable for simulation and for further design work. |
| Concept design | Early-stage geometry generation driven by the flow requirement, so aerodynamic or thermal intent is built in rather than corrected later. |
| Production drawings | Detailed, dimensioned drawings and manufacturing data at the level of detail a fabricator needs. |
| Rapid prototyping | Physical parts produced for fit checks, wind tunnel models and functional testing. |
2 · How a project runs
Scan positions, resolution and reference targets are planned for the accuracy the downstream use requires — a simulation model and a fabrication drawing do not need the same thing.
Data capture by CompFlow personnel, including registration checks on site so gaps are found before we leave.
Point cloud registration, cleaning and surface reconstruction into parametric or watertight geometry.
Concept or modification design carried out on the reconstructed model, verified against clearances and the existing installation.
Production drawings issued, and where required a physical prototype produced for verification before commitment.
3 · Typical engagements
Scanning an existing installation to produce the geometry a dispersion, ventilation or process study needs.
Reconstructing a part with no surviving drawings so it can be analysed, modified or remanufactured.
Design and manufacture of an instrumented test model matched to the simulated geometry.
Designing a modification that has to fit an existing structure exactly, verified against scan data rather than nominal drawings.
4 · What you receive
Scanning and design are quoted per project, including site attendance. They are commonly the first stage of a consulting study where no usable geometry exists.
All work is carried out by CompFlow personnel at company premises under strict bidirectional non-disclosure agreements, on in-house computing facilities including a 120-core cluster. Engagement is project-based (predefined deliverables and deadlines) or yearly (a set number of consultancy hours).
